Training and Support Associate

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a member of the Knowledge Department, the Training & Support Associate would work directly with the training team to deliver high quality college affordability technical support to Impact team members.  This role will be critical in helping us maintain our suite of college affordability trainings and resources.  The body of work that this role will be involved in will help ensure that both advisors and students have the information and tools they need to navigate complicated financial aid systems and processes.  While no previous professional experience in college access or financial aid is required, we are seeking an individual who is ready to jump in and develop a deep understanding and working knowledge of college affordability, financial aid, and college access and success more broadly.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Training and resource/content maintenance, using a variety of programs such as Canva, Publisher, PowerPoint, Adobe, and the G Suite
  • Adding capacity to the training team during onboarding periods, facilitating key financial aid/affordability trainings with the support of the Senior Director of Training and Support and the Senior Knowledge Manager
  • Contributing to the Knowledge Department's curation, documentation, and distribution of critical financial aid information at the federal and state level
  • Having particular knowledge of NY financial aid and higher education system preferred, but not required
  • Commitment to continuous learning, as the college affordability landscape is always changing
  • With the support of the Knowledge Department, mastering complex financial aid concepts and material
  • While this role will not have a student advising caseload, this role may still offer some direct support to students through workshops and periodic Student Support Days
  • Acting as a thought partner and co-creator in content creation, training facilitation, and other Knowledge Department projects as needed
  • Attend organizational meetings and retreats as needed


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • 1 year or less of professional experience
  • Previous work or volunteer experience with youth not required, but is a plus
  • Work or volunteer experience on college campus or higher education generally not required, but is preferred
  • Professional or personal experience with the NY higher education system strongly desired, but not required
  • Minimum Associate's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education preferred 
  • Experience or great interest in youth mentorship and direct service work
  • Willingness to develop facilitation and public speaking skills
  • Formal or informal experience in digital content creation and editing generally not required, but is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality work
  • Some familiarity with digital creation/editing software or programs (Canva, Adobe, Microsoft products, G Suite, among others)
  • High level of flexibility and adaptability required
  • May require travel to the Boston area 1-3 times a year
  • Occasional evening hours on weekdays to support direct service work for students and families

ANTICIPATED START DATE: December 1, 2021

COMPENSATION: The salary range for this position is $40,500 - $43,750. Salary commensurate with experience and education.  

GRADE: A

STATUS: Exempt, full time

LOCATION AND WORK ARRANGEMENT: Open to east coast geographies (MA or NY), but NY based is preferred. Employee works remotely 2-4 days/week and may spend “in office” time in different locations. Employees will be required to be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless you have a medical or religious exemption.

REPORTS TO: Bernadette Astacio, Senior Director of Training and Support
